I believe this would be a great help to those who created an Assassin at 5:30am and didn't realize Assassin didn't have 3 A's .
But this is also good in case you really like the character but have a dated name.

Want
This is the very most thing I want guildwars to implement. I created my character when guildwars came out as Volvic Assassin. There is now a class called the Assassin. This puts me in a very horrible position.

Incorrect Asumptions
This cannot be used for scamming because your account is coded not by your name but probably by a number or possible by your serial number. So even if your friend changes his name to somebodies on your ignore list the person who was on your ignore list remains blocked. And for the people who think this will lag guild wars. This will not clog the servers anymore than people sending in name change requests via email. I actually think it would save on time and effort for the ncsoft support center.

Sad Story
I have stopped playing my warrior named Volvic Assassin due to the lack of enthusiasm sprung on me as soon as I log onto my warrior. I sometimes ponder if I should delete him but then I always realize he has discovered 100% of Tyria, has every skill (including every elite captured), he has every mission and bonus done. Not to mention he is wearing a suit of Fissure Armor. I am in a bit of a krisis and am extremely bothered.

Beware
First off, I dont beleive the information about you being able to change you name should be told to new players to the game before they create a character. That would not be a good idea because then they would just pick a crumby name.

Implementation
This is how I beleive this can be properly implemented into the guild wars user interface. I think this feature should be located in the Hero Screen. If you press the "H" key and then press on your name or possible your avatar, then a popup box would come up asking you this: Would you like to change you characters name? (2/2 Uses Remaining). Then a text box would be underneath it asking you for your new name, your current name, and your password. (Only for personal protection.) Then possibly a "Done" button and a "Cancel" button. Another point I would like bring up is that I have been told that if your characters name is actually changed due to a banned name or anything thing, that your armor and customized weapons and still customized to your old name, maybe this can also be fixed. I wouldnt mind if this cost 30 skill points or even 50k, I would give the world just to be able to change my name.

Request
I would GREATLY apreciate this, or even a yes or no to this bill. I have been waiting quite a while just for an answer. Thanks for reading, and have a nice day.

Oh, I almost forgot.

This would make scammers run away 100 times easier. All they'd have to do is scam then change there name.

Personally, I'd like to have some way to change your character's name if you think its offensive without having to report yourself. I almost got banned for the duration of the preorder event because of a character I had since the BWE (name was French Hooker). Fortuneately I got a hold of a considerate moderator and was able to participate, but it would be good to be able deal with these sorts of issues before offending people enough to report you.

well it can be a problem and a blessing
scammer would get away with scams often
confusing if you saw someone with a particular name and saw that person but it's not the same person
you really would have to state the exact time of the crime like some scammer scammed ya and you would really need to put that timezone and exact time of it
It will be great to change a name to something to fit a particular new theme to a new chapter of GuildWars
great if you made a mistake when making the character name but didn't realize it til very late in the game
great if you had a name with azn , assassin, or asn when no one with knew about the 2nd chapter of gw but would love to rid yourself or that part of the name
great if you found a creative name when making a pvp character but want your PvE character to have the name
great if you made a silly name but now you no longer like it but you progressed too far into the game

suggestions?
have that name change option somewhere between create and delete
put a restrictions like how many times you could change your name like how your home region can be changed btw you can change regions only 5 times
somewhere on the website , they could put something like a name change list which lists people who changed their names
the name change will have a some sort of delay before it actually happens like when you change your login name but loss access to that email so you had to wait a week
anyone who's going get their name changed would have some sort of indicator which tells everyone ingame that their name will be changed within a certain amount of time
anyway the game should have something that warns someone from choosing an offensive name in the first place or when changing that character's name with something offensive

it's mixed for me but it will be great if there are precautions and some system that prevents abuse for such a great function or feature

That pretty much sums it up nicely and it is pretty obvious that the pros outweigh the cons. I know that ANET has a form of tracking down criminals with name changes. Because many people have been scammed using pvp characters which can easily be deleted, yet they are still caught. Scamming will not become a problem when this feature is added, I assure you. ANET is always one step ahead of the criminals. I am sure that everytime a person creates or deletes a character, it is recorded in a "log book" and if this feature is added the "log book" can also be consisted of name changes aswel.

only thing I don't like about this is the people who abuse the game, you tell the name to the guildies so they know not to group with that person, that person can just go change the name. Would be nice to see something put under the name like "formerly known as X" for about a month.

Yes, like possibly a second title. This should be displayed for about a month. Great idea.

3 changes per toon

and it would not be harder for a-net to catch scammers since it's still the same account, works same way as Friends list and Guild rooster.

it is already a big problem so why give the scammers more options and make Anet work harder tracking them down?

the problem is that the potentiol scam victims dont have those logs to look at and wouldnt have the time if they did. and get scammed again.

take a bit of time on the name ,delete it, or live with it

LOL
The scammers allready have 6 different names to scam under, and names are account based anyway(you put someone on your friends list and as soon as that account is logged on the toon used shows up in your list)
So the argument about making it harder for A-net don't stand up. Wether you change name or not A-net still knows who to go for, and most "scams" are not scams but it's stupidity from the person claming to have been "scammed".
Use your brain in game just as you have to in real life.

My guess is that they don't use the char-name as a unique key, but instead an internal unique id that the end-users never get to see. Nevertheless;

/not signed. Would cause too much confusion. Would be too hard to remember who that sucky healer from yesterday is, and which ones aggro like crazy, etc.
